WHAT WE BELIEVE

Our Vision and Beliefs
At Holy Trinity Barnes, we exist to glorify God by making disciples and planting new worshipping communities — in Barnes and beyond.
We are part of the Church of England, and we joyfully affirm the Evangelical Alliance’s Basis of Faith, which expresses the core truths that shape who we are and what we believe:
-
The one true God — eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
-
The love, grace, and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming, and judging the world.
-
The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Scriptures — the Old and New Testaments as the written Word of God, fully trustworthy in all matters of faith and conduct.
-
The dignity of all people, created male and female in God’s image to love, be holy, and care for creation — yet marred by sin, which brings God’s righteous judgment.
-
The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, Jesus Christ — born of the Virgin Mary, truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
-
The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross — dying in our place, bearing the penalty of sin, defeating evil, and reconciling us to God.
-
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ — the first fruits of our own resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
-
The justification of sinners — by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
-
The ministry of the Holy Spirit — who brings new birth, leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ, empowers our discipleship, and equips us for witness.
-
The Church — the body of Christ, both local and global; a community of believers given life by the Spirit and gifted to worship God, proclaim the gospel, and work for justice and love.
-
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ — when he will fulfil God’s purposes, raise all people to judgment, grant eternal life to the redeemed, and establish a new heaven and a new earth.
